The Food Pantry

The Food Pantry is one of Emmanuel's most visible and active Outreach ministries.  We are open Mondays and Tuesdays every week, from 10:00am-12:00noon.  We give bags of produce, fresh bread, meat, canned goods, and paper items to clients based on the size of their family.  We serve over 100 families a month.

We need volunteers!  Here are some ways you can help:

1: Volunteer to staff the pantry!  We need 2-3 individuals every week to run the pantry, meeting with clients, documenting information, and distributing food.  The commitment is just 2 1/2 hours a week, and the benefits are great!  Training is available for new volunteers.

2. Volunteer to stock the shelves!  We need people to purchase crates of food from Walmart and the Blue Ridge Food Bank, drive it to Emmanuel, and unload every week.

3. Volunteer to pick up bread at Panera!  We need individuals to go to Panera Bread on Sunday evenings to pick up the leftovers that Panera so generously donates to us, bring the crates back to church, and bag the bread items individually for clients to take the following morning.

4. Contribute to the pantry financially!  It takes about $12,000 a year to run the pantry by purchasing food. Write a check to Emmanuel, with "Food Pantry" in the memo line.

5. Contribute food items to the pantry!  We ask the congregation to bring various items every week: peanut butter, sugar, fruit, canned meats, crackers, etc.  There is a basket at the  back of the Nave where items may be contributed and blessed in church, or you can leave items at the Food Pantry door or in the church office.
